Programming Robots
British Computer Society SPA Group
November 2006
Cambridge, UK
Language: English

Invited talk given to the British Computer Society SPA Groupin Cambridge, UK. Talking about robots one thinks about futuristic Star Wars like creatures such as C3-PO and R2-D2 or maybe about real, clumsy robots used, e.g. in car manufacturing. However, both kinds of robots need to be programmed in some way. Today’s situation is far away from the fantastic world of C3-PO and his friends. It is a mix-up of programming languages, operating systems and runtime environments since each manufacturer of hardware proposes its own hardware, operating systems and thus quite often highly specialised programming tools.
